The Gem Tang is one of the most prestigious and rarest fish in the marine aquarium hobby, attaining a Max Size of 22 cm. It features a deep obsidian-black body that serves as a dramatic canvas for hundreds of brilliant, tiny white-to-silver spots that resemble a galaxy of stars. Its tail is a contrasting translucent yellow. Native to the deeper reefs of the Western Indian Ocean, particularly around Mauritius, it is a hardy but territorial species. Like all Zebrasoma, it is an active grazer that requires plenty of high-quality marine algae to maintain its health and incredible coloration. Due to its rarity and high value, it is often the crown jewel of a high-end reef display.
