The Redbreasted Maori Wrasse, also known as the Redbreast Wrasse or Banded Maori Wrasse, is a bold and strikingly patterned marine species native to the Indo-Pacific. Instantly recognizable by its vibrant orange-red chest band contrasted against alternating dark olive and white vertical body stripes, it adds exceptional color and presence to large marine aquariums. A highly intelligent and curious predator, it actively hunts along the rockwork and substrate, using its strong jaws to consume ornamental invertebrates like crabs, snails, and shrimp. While generally peaceful toward fish too large to swallow, its moderate-to-aggressive feeding nature and predatory instinct make it suited strictly for fish-only or semi-aggressive setups with ample swim room and secure rock caves.
