The Ribbon Moray Eel is a mesmerizing and highly specialized predator known for its long, slender, ribbon-like body and elegant, fan-like nasal expanded appendages. This species undergoes a fascinating transformation throughout its life, changing both its sex and coloration as it matures: juveniles start out a sleek, glossy black; adult males transition into an incredible electric blue with bright yellow accents along their fins and jaws; and fully mature individuals transition into females that display a striking, solid yellow coloration. Because of their unique, highly flexible anatomy, Ribbon Eels are notorious escape artists that require a tightly secured, weighted aquarium lid. They should be provided with a deep sand bed and customized PVC pipe networks embedded in the rockwork to replicate their natural burrows.
