Commonly known as the Barred Moray or Banded Moray, the Polyzona Eel is a less common but equally fascinating relative of the Snowflake Eel. It displays a stark, high-contrast pattern of bold vertical chocolate-brown bands against a pale cream or white background. As the eel matures, these bands may become somewhat more mottled or develop a "picket fence" appearance. It is a smaller species that remains relatively reclusive, preferring to navigate the labyrinth of rockwork in the lower sections of the tank. Because it shares the blunt-toothed morphology of other Echidna species, it focuses its predatory efforts on crabs and shrimp. It is an excellent choice for a predatory reef tank where a massive Zebra Moray might be too large.
