The Tomentosus Filefish, or Bristletail Filefish, is the "utility player" of the marine aquarium world, famous for its appetite for nuisance Aiptasia anemones. Its coloration is a masterclass in camouflage, featuring a mottled palette of olive green, brown, and tan that can change intensity to match its surroundings. The skin has a unique, sandpaper-like texture and may develop small "tassels" to help it blend into algae or seagrass. They have a distinctive rhomboid shape and a small, upturned mouth. While they are generally peaceful and full of personality, they are "With Caution" in reef tanks because once the Aiptasia are gone, they may turn their attention to LPS corals, zoanthids, or polyps.
