The Solar Boxfish, or Reticulated Boxfish, is a smaller and highly decorative species. Males are particularly vibrant, featuring a complex pattern of blue and gold reticulated lines on the back, with sides that transition into a deep blue-grey decorated with white spots. Females are generally more muted with a brownish-grey reticulated pattern. They are more delicate than the Yellow Boxfish and require a well-established reef or FOWLR system with very passive tankmates. Because of their smaller maximum size, they are often a better choice for reef keepers, though they still carry the risk of toxin release and may nip at soft corals or fan worms if underfed.
