Product overview
The Salifert Nitrite Profi Test Kit measures nitrite (NO₂) so you can catch toxic spikes when a new tank is cycling or the biofilter is overloaded. Unseen nitrite slows maturation, stresses fish respiration, and can dull sensitive marine livestock.
Amino acids and amines in tank water can make some kits read too low (false negatives). This kit uses indicators meant to block that interference. Testing is done in a vial, not in the tank.

Testing and instructions
Always follow dosage & directions on product packaging.
Established marine tanks should read 0 ppm. How often to test:

New tank cycling: Every 2 days to track ammonia converting to nitrite, then to nitrate.

After medication / quarantine: Daily, in case the filter bed has crashed.

Heavy feeding or new fish: Every 3–5 days after adding a large group.

Established tanks: Every 2 weeks with your nitrate tests, to rule out incomplete cycling or anaerobic dead spots.
Storage

Spoon: Do not mix reagent spoons. Clean and dry the micro-spoon straight after use; a dirty scoop skews the colour.

Box: Cool, dry cupboard out of direct sunlight. Do not freeze or overheat the reagents.

Vial: Rinse with RO/DI water and dry with a clean tissue so leftover reagent does not contaminate the next test.
