Product overview

Salifert Flatworm Exit is a concentrated liquid for treating acoel flatworms in marine tanks. These pests often arrive on unquarantined corals. Left untreated they can smother tissue, block light, stall growth, and fade colour.

The formula is aimed at flatworms rather than fish, corals, or most mobile reef invertebrates. The bigger risk is the toxin dying worms release. Plan siphoning and carbon before you dose.

Key features

  • Target: Active mix made to kill flatworms, not the rest of a typical reef.
  • Livestock: Intended for SPS, LPS, soft corals, clams, and reef-safe fish. Not for freshwater or shrimp breeding tanks.
  • Speed: Worms often detach and leave crevices within about 30 minutes.
  • Coverage: Spreads in high flow so hidden groups are more likely to be reached.
  • Aftercare: Bind leftovers with fresh activated carbon once treatment is underway.
  • Yield: 10 mL (about 300 drops) treats up to 1,200 litres at the standard dose.

Water and system compatibility

  • Water: Marine and reef aquariums only. Not for freshwater.
  • Filtration during dosing: Turn off UV, ozone, and carbon reactors. Keep the protein skimmer running.

Dosing and instructions

Always follow dosage & directions on product packaging.

Toxicity warning: The product is formulated as reef-safe, but dying flatworms release highly toxic body fluids. Treat the aftermath as carefully as the dose itself.

Standard dose: 1 drop per 4 litres of aquarium water, into a high-flow area.

  • Before dosing: Siphon every visible worm you can. Use a powerhead to blow hidden worms out of rock. Have at least 450 g of fresh carbon ready per ~190 litres of tank water, plus a 25% water change mixed and waiting.
  • Dose: 1 drop per 4 litres. If no worms are dying after 45 minutes, add 50% more.
  • During and after: As soon as worms start dying, siphon the carcasses and put fresh activated carbon on a forced canister or reactor. Watch the tank for at least 6 hours. If livestock shows stress, do the prepared water change.

Storage

  • Bottle: Keep in its box in a cool, dry cupboard, away from children and heat. Do not refrigerate.
  • Cap: Seal at once after use so the strength does not change from evaporation.
  • Carbon: Do not open the bottle until the carbon is physically on hand.
