Description
The Red Sea ReefLED G2 170 is the high-output flagship fixture in the ReefLED series, engineered to deliver deep water column penetration and broad coverage for larger reef displays or SPS-dominant coral systems. Built around a dense, high-powered central LED puck array, it uses a single patented optical-glass hollow lens to completely blend the individual diode colors before they emit from the fixture. This advanced optical mixing eliminates localized color hot spots and prevents the color separation effect, delivering an even light spread with a natural underwater shimmer.
The 2nd generation (G2) model uses an upgraded chipset paired with Dynamic Power Management technology. While legacy fixtures often lose total output when a channel is dimmed, the G2 170 can route its full 170 Watts of electrical power seamlessly across the color spectrum. This ensures full-power performance whether you tune it to a crisp 10,000K daylight look or a high-fluorescence 23,000K actinic sapphire setting. The structural chassis features rounded corner styling, a deeply recessed lens assembly that cuts down on external room glare, and built-in thermal sensors that regulate a quiet, top-mounted cooling fan. Wireless scheduling operates over local Wi-Fi and Bluetooth using the ReefBeat mobile app.

LED Spectral Channel Breakdown
The G2 170 relies on a specialized 100% "Reef-Safe" configuration focused squarely between 380nm and 480nm. It intentionally omits wavelengths above 480nm (such as greens, yellows, and reds) because research shows they create excess thermal stress and can promote toxic oxygen radicals that damage a coral's internal zooxanthellae algae:
| LED Channel | Power Split | Wavelength Component Profiles |
| REEF-SPEC Blue | 155 Watts | An aggregated, high-intensity blend of UV (405nm), Violet (420nm), Deep Blue (450nm), and standard Blue expanded out to 470nm for maximum fluorescence |
| Reef White | 12 Watts | An 8,000K crisp white channel that supplies clean visual clarity and bright daylight rendition (measured at roughly 45% usable PUR) |
| Moonlight | 3 Watts | An isolated, low-intensity independent channel used for gentle nocturnal viewing and lunar cycle mapping |
-
ReefBeat Adaptive Exposure Monitoring: Includes an automated safety tool that cross-checks your scheduling programs against Red Sea's biological database. Because white light (lower Kelvin) yields a faster coral exposure limit than blue light, the software calculates your day's combined photoperiod and intensity, displaying it as a single "Daily Exposure Percentage" to ensure you never accidentally over-illuminate or stress your livestock.
-
Smart Environment Programming: Packed with automatic features, including an automated 28-day lunar phase tracking simulator, a multi-week coral acclimation ramp tool to slowly introduce newly added species to high PAR, randomized cloud simulation with 3 distinct shading depths, and staggered sunrise/sunset timers to create a fluid, moving dawn effect across multi-light systems.
-
Instant Photo-Mode Presets: The app dashboard features a manual library that lets you save custom spectrum blends and includes a factory-installed "Photo-Mode" toggle. One tap shifts the array into an ultra-fluorescent, high-contrast spectrum optimized for smartphone photography, allowing you to quickly shoot pictures of your corals before the app automatically eases back into the primary daily schedule.
-
Mounting Infrastructure Integration: The rear track channel slides directly onto Red Sea's heavy-duty mounting accessories. It aligns natively with the reinforced single-light ReefLED 160/170 universal mount arm (built to step over thick glass rims and pivot up out of the way during tank maintenance), multi-light horizontal tracking tracks, or the ceiling-anchored overhead wire suspension cable kit.
