The Rectangular Triggerfish, also known as the Wedge-tailed Triggerfish or Reef Triggerfish (and famously in Hawaii as the Humuhumunukunukuāpuaʻa), is an iconic and hardy marine species known for its vivid geometric patterns and distinct personality. Featuring a distinctive wedge-shaped body decorated with bold black, gold, and blue diagonal bands, it makes a striking center-piece inhabitant for large marine systems. Highly territorial and active, it spends much of its time rearranging substrate, exploring rockwork, and using its powerful jaws to crunch through hard-shelled invertebrates. While generally too aggressive for peaceful community tanks or coral reefs, it thrives in a well-anchored, fish-only setup with plenty of swimming room and secure live rock caves.
