The Raccoon Butterflyfish is a bold and charismatic species named for the black "bandit mask" and white crescent-shaped band behind its eyes. Its body is a warm golden-yellow, decorated with diagonal reddish-brown stripes and a dark spot on the tail base. This species is primarily nocturnal in the wild, but it quickly adapts to daytime feeding in the aquarium. It is quite hardy and has a robust personality, often becoming quite "tame" with its keepers. However, it has a very diverse diet that includes coral polyps, anemones, and fan worms, meaning it is not suitable for a standard reef aquarium containing prized corals.
