The Purple Tilefish is a rare and striking species with a solid, vibrant violet-to-purple body and a forked tail. Like other tilefish, it is a deep-water dweller that lives in burrows on the sand flats near reef walls. They are exquisitely beautiful but are considered one of the most difficult fish to acclimate to aquarium life. They are highly prone to "shipping stress" and injury from jumping. Once established, they are active and interesting fish that will constantly maintain their burrow. They require a quiet home, frequent feedings of high-quality meaty foods, and a thick sand bed (10cm+) to feel secure.
