Description
The Pixy Hawkfish, also frequently called the Coral Hawkfish, is a remarkably hardy and charismatic species that brings a wealth of personality to the reef aquarium. Its body features a pale cream-to-pinkish base color, intricately decorated with a series of dark reddish-brown spots that often merge into irregular vertical bands. One of its most distinctive anatomical features is the presence of small, hair-like tufts known as cirri at the tips of its dorsal fin spines, giving it a somewhat "feathered" appearance.Like all hawkfish, it lacks a swim bladder and spends its time "perching" on high points of rockwork or coral branches, darting down with surprising speed to snatch up passing prey. While they are full of character and very easy to care for, they are opportunistic hunters; small ornamental shrimp and very small fish are often viewed as potential meals.
