The Mimic Tang is a fascinating species reaching a Max Size of 25 cm. As a juvenile, it is famous for mimicking various dwarf angelfish (like the Lemonpeel or Herald’s Angel) to avoid predation. As it matures, it develops a beautiful chocolate-brown-to-black body with a yellow-rimmed tail and orange markings behind the gill. They are exceptionally hardy and are excellent at cleaning hair algae off the rockwork. Their ability to adapt and their utility as algae eaters make them one of the best choices for reef keepers looking for a smaller Acanthurus species.
