The Melanurus Wrasse, also known as the Hoeven's Wrasse, is one of the best "utility" fish for a reef aquarium. It is renowned for its appetite for flatworms, nudibranchs, and pyramidellid snails, making it a natural pest-control specialist. Beyond its utility, it is a stunningly beautiful fish with horizontal pink, yellow, and blue stripes. It requires a sand bed to sleep in and is generally peaceful toward other fish, though it may occasionally nip at very small ornamental shrimp.
