The Freckled Hawkfish, also known as Forster’s Hawkfish, is a larger and more robust species with a highly variable color palette. It typically features a yellowish or tan body with a dark brown-to-black upper half, but its most defining feature is the dense cluster of small, dark "freckles" or spots covering its face and head. As they mature, they become quite imposing and territorial, requiring a larger tank with substantial rockwork. This species is a formidable predator; anything that can fit into its mouth, including small fish and almost all ornamental shrimp, is considered a potential meal. Their personality is quite bold, and they will often "eye-up" anyone approaching the tank from their favorite perching spot.
