The Flame Hawkfish is one of the most vibrant and sought-after members of the hawkfish family, boasting a brilliant, solid scarlet-to-orange body. Its striking appearance is further enhanced by a jet-black "mask" around its eyes and a dark band along the base of its dorsal fin. Like all hawkfish, it lacks a swim bladder, which means it doesn't "swim" in the traditional sense; instead, it hops from one coral head to another, using its thickened pectoral fins to "perch" and survey the aquarium. They are full of personality and often display a high level of intelligence, watching their keepers from their favorite vantage points. While generally peaceful toward fish that are too large to eat, they are known to prey on small ornamental shrimp and crabs.
