Often confused with the Pixy due to their shared scientific name in some regions, the Falco Hawkfish is characterized by its distinct "V" or "Y" shaped reddish-brown vertical bands against a pale pink-to-white body. They possess the same characteristic dorsal cirri as other Cirrhitichthys species, which look like tiny feathers atop their fins. These fish are incredibly resilient and adapt quickly to aquarium life, often becoming the "king of the mountain" in smaller systems. They are famously bold and will not hesitate to swoop down from their perch to grab food before it reaches other fish. They are best kept with slightly larger or more assertive tankmates who won't be intimidated by their "hop-and-stop" swimming style.
