Eastern Rainbowfish (Melanotaenia splendida splendida)

Overview

The Eastern Rainbowfish is a remarkably hardy, wide-ranging Australian native that is highly adaptable, making it a fantastic recommendation for beginners. True to their scientific name splendida, mature specimens display a gorgeous golden-green body hue, highlighted by brilliant checkerboard patterns of red, yellow, and black across their wide dorsal and anal fins. They are a robust, fast-moving schooler that loves plenty of horizontal swimming space. Because they are exceptionally resilient to shifts in water parameters, they excel in a wide variety of community setups.
