The Diamond Watchman Goby is widely considered the "gold standard" for keeping aquarium sand beds clean. Its white-to-silvery body is adorned with beautiful orange-to-golden diamond-shaped spots and iridescent blue streaks on its cheeks. Unlike shrimp gobies, this species is a "sleeper" goby, meaning it constantly sifts mouthfuls of sand through its gills to extract tiny crustaceans and organic matter. This behavior keeps the substrate oxygenated and white, though it can occasionally lead to sand being dropped on low-lying corals. They are peaceful and active during the day, but they are known jumpers and require a secure lid.
