The Convict Tang is an active and hardy species reaching a Max Size of 20 cm. Its name is derived from its simple but striking color pattern: a pale silver-to-white body marked by six vertical black bars (stripes). In the wild, they are often found in massive schools on reef flats where they overwhelm territories to graze on algae. In the aquarium, they are tireless workers that will help keep rocks clean of filamentous green algae. While they lack the neon colors of other tangs, their social behavior and constant activity make them very engaging. They are generally peaceful but should be provided with high water flow and plenty of swimming room.
