The Blue Spotted Puffer, or Blue Spotted Sharpnose Puffer, is a diminutive and exquisitely patterned member of the Canthigaster genus. Its body is a warm reddish-brown to orange, completely covered in iridescent neon blue spots and radiating lines around the eyes. Like all sharpnose puffers, it possesses a distinctively pointed snout and an intelligent, inquisitive personality, often "hovering" in place while its eyes move independently to track movement. They are famously hardy and full of character, but they are notorious fin-nippers; slow-moving fish with long flowing fins are often targeted. In a reef setting, they are "With Caution" because they have a penchant for nipping at the "meaty" bases of stony corals, fan worms, and ornamental invertebrates.
