Sand calculator
How much sand do you need? Enter the internal length and width of the tank and the sand depth you want, and the calculator will estimate the weight.
Important: This is an approximate dry-sand figure. Rock, slopes and bags that settle will change the amount you actually use, so it is worth buying a little extra.

- Reef / marine: 2–5 cm

- Planted / deep bed: 7–10 cm
How it is calculated
Length × width × depth. That volume is converted to litres, then multiplied by 1.5 kg per litre — a typical dry aquarium-sand density.
Buy a little extra
Rock, slopes and settling bags mean you often use more than the flat-bed figure. An extra 10% is a safe buffer.
