Product overview
API Stress Coat makes tap water safe for aquarium fish and helps reduce stress. Tap water can contain chlorine, chloramines, and heavy metals that irritate gills and skin.
This dual-action formula instantly neutralises those toxins and uses aloe vera to support the slime coat. Use it for water changes, when setting up a new tank, or when adding new fish.
Suitable for fresh and saltwater usage.
Key features
- Detoxifies tap water: Neutralises chlorine, chloramines, and heavy metals so new water is safe to add straight away.
- Aloe vera: Helps support healing of torn fins, skin wounds, and open sores.
- Replaces the slime coat: Forms a protective barrier when fish lose their natural slime coat from stress, netting, handling, or fighting.
- Reduces stress: Helps calm fish during tank setup, moving, and large water changes. API states it can reduce stress by up to 40%.
- Wide use: Safe for freshwater and saltwater, including community fish, reef tanks, live plants, and invertebrates such as shrimp and snails.
Dosing and instructions
Always double check dosing and directions on product packaging.
- To dechlorinate tap water: Add 5 ml for every 38 litres (10 US gallons) of new water.
- For damaged skin and fins: Double the dose to 10 ml for every 38 litres (10 US gallons), added directly to the tank.
- When to use: Routine water changes, new aquarium setup, adding new fish, or treating fish with damaged skin and torn fins.
