Black Phantom Tetra (Hyphessobrycon megalopterus)

Overview

The Black Phantom Tetra brings a dramatic, moody aesthetic to the aquarium. They sport a distinctive smoky-grey translucent body highlighted by a bold, black patch outlined in iridescent silver right behind their gills. The real show happens with the males; they possess tall, dramatic, sail-like dorsal and anal fins. When two males encounter one another, they put on a spectacular, harmless sparring display where they flare their fins fully to show dominance. They are peaceful community residents that look incredible when contrasted against brighter fish.
