Product overview

Master Soil Next HG Powder is an active planted-tank substrate in 2.5–3 mm granules (8 L bag). Many soils dump a cloud of ammonia at start-up. Without a supportive bed, roots stall, tannins keep the water yellow, and parameters swing.

Made in Japan with multi-stage surface sintering, it buffers toward soft tropical water and holds humic and fulvic acids in the granule. It is formulated to limit that first ammonia spike so the water stays clearer from day one.

Key features

  • Buffering: Ion exchange lowers and holds pH, GH, and KH in a soft-water range.
  • Low ammonia: Made to avoid the large start-up ammonia spike common with older soils, so livestock can go in sooner.
  • Porous granules: Sintered structure for nitrifying bacteria and fewer anaerobic pockets.
  • Plant nutrients: Humic and fulvic acids for roots and leaf colour over the life of the bed.
  • Clarity: Absorbs fine particles and yellow driftwood tannins, often within hours.
  • Hardness: Granules resist turning to mud or compacting, so the layout lasts longer.

Water and system compatibility

  • Water: Freshwater only. Not for marine reefs or high-pH African cichlid tanks.
  • Livestock: Dwarf shrimp (including Caridina), tropical soft-water fish, and root-feeding plants.
  • Grain: 2.5–3 mm powder grade for nano tanks, or as a smooth top layer over coarser soil for foreground carpets.

Coverage

Do not rinse. Aim for a 5–8 cm bed. Typical amounts:

Tank Approx. volume Substrate needed
45 cm nano ~35 L 6–8 L
60 cm standard ~57 L 8–11 L
90 cm large ~157 L 24–32 L

Installation and care

Always follow dosage & directions on product packaging.

  • Do not rinse: Water on the soil outside the tank can break the sintered granules. Pour dry from the bag into the empty aquarium.
  • Fill slowly: Cover the bed with a plastic bag or bubble wrap and trickle water on so you do not blast holes in the soil.
  • No extra buffers: Do not add pH-lowering chemicals, active resins, or other buffers. They can crash parameters on top of the soil’s own buffering.
  • First week: Partial water changes to skim any harmless surface film or fine dust.
