The Scooter Dragonet is the rugged cousin of the Mandarin, featuring a mottled tan, brown, and white camouflage pattern that allows it to disappear against the sand and rubble. Despite its "goby" appearance, it is a true dragonet, characterized by its large, fan-like dorsal fin (especially in males) and its unique "scooting" movement across the substrate. While they are slightly more likely to accept prepared frozen foods than Mandarins, they still rely heavily on live copepods to stay healthy. They are full of personality and are excellent for "nano" reefers who have a well-established biological filter and plenty of pod-friendly rockwork.
