Living up to its name, the Lawnmower Blenny is perhaps the most famous algae-control specialist in the hobby. While it lacks bright neon colors, its intricate "camouflage" pattern of olive, tan, and grey bands allows it to blend perfectly into the reef landscape. It has a stocky, powerful body and large, fan-like pectoral fins that it uses to "perch" on rocks, often looking like it is sitting on its front legs. Its large, roving eyes and fringed cirri give it an intelligent, grumpy expression. This fish is a workhorse, constantly rasping away at hair algae and green film algae, though it needs a large enough tank to ensure a steady supply of natural food.
