Dogface Puffer

The Dogface Puffer is a beloved "pet" fish named for its remarkably canine-like facial features and expressive eyes. This species is highly variable in colour, ranging from grey and brown to brilliant "golden" morphs, often accented by black spots or a dark "mask" around the mouth and eyes. They have a soft, scale-less skin that feels like velvet and a robust, heavy body. Dogface puffers are known for their high intelligence and ability to recognize their owners, often begging for food at the surface. Because they grow quite large and produce significant waste, they require a powerful filtration system. They possess strong beak-like teeth used for crushing shells and will easily make a meal of any crustacean or coral in the tank.
