Description

Product overview

The Salifert pH Profi Test Kit measures marine pH so you can catch 24-hour swings before calcification slows, skeletons weaken, or colour browns. pH strongly affects coral and calcareous algae growth. Low readings often point to poor aeration or low alkalinity.

The liquid indicator is calibrated in 0.2 pH steps on a marine scale. Testing is done in a vial, not in the tank. It is also a useful check against electronic pH pens and controller probes that can drift.

Key features

  • Range: 7.4–8.6, mapped for marine chemistry.
  • Resolution: 0.2 pH units, so you can keep daily swing under about 0.3.
  • Tests per kit: About 50.
  • Simple workflow: Fast colour-match test without extra lab steps.
  • Off-tank: The sequence runs in a dedicated vial, so reagents do not enter the aquarium.
  • Probe check: Manual baseline to verify electronic meters.

Water and system compatibility

  • Water: Calibrated for marine and reef chemistry.
  • Use: SPS, LPS, soft-coral, and fish-only with live rock (FOWLR) tanks.
  • Adjustment: Use the results to decide on extra surface aeration, a CO₂ scrubber, or an alkalinity boost such as Red Sea Foundation B.

Testing and instructions

Always follow dosage & directions on product packaging.

Typical reef target is 8.0–8.2 for calcification. How often to test:

  • Daily swing: On chosen days, test as lights turn on (daily low) and just before lights off (daily high).
  • Low alkalinity: Test at once if KH falls below natural seawater, so pH does not crash with it.
  • Closed rooms: Test more often in winter or summer when windows stay shut and room CO₂ can pull tank pH down.
  • Routine: Weekly, alongside alkalinity.

Storage

  • Caps: Seal droppers as soon as you finish. Evaporation skews the colour.
  • Box: Cool, dry cupboard out of direct sunlight. Do not freeze or overheat the reagents.
  • Vial: Rinse with RO/DI water and dry with a clean tissue so leftover reagent does not contaminate the next test.
