The Salifert Ammonia Profi Test Kit measures total ammonia (NH₃ + NH₄⁺) so you can catch toxic spikes when a new tank is cycling or the biofilter is overloaded. Unseen ammonia causes respiratory distress, gill damage, and can dull marine and freshwater livestock.
The liquid reagents are formulated so typical water conditioners do not skew the result. Testing is done in a vial, not in the tank.

Testing and instructions
Always follow dosage & directions on product packaging.
Established marine tanks should read 0 ppm. How often to test:

New tank cycling: Every 2 days to track the ammonia spike and decline before nitrite builds.

After medication / quarantine: Daily, in case the filter bed has crashed.

After a death: Test straight away if a fish or large invertebrate dies, so the extra load does not spike ammonia.

New livestock: Test when adding stock to check the biofilter can keep up.
Storage

Caps: Seal bottles as soon as you finish. Evaporation or moisture in the reagents skews the colour.

Box: Cool, dry cupboard out of direct sunlight. Do not freeze or overheat the reagents.

Vial: Rinse with RO/DI water and dry with a clean tissue so leftover reagent does not contaminate the next test.
