Product overview
The AI Hydra 32 HD Marine is a high-output LED light from AquaIllumination for saltwater reef tanks. General-purpose lights often lack the intensity and spectrum corals need, which can mean faded colour and receding tissue.
It uses a dense dual-cluster LED array to put PAR where corals sit. Control schedules, deeper-water spectrums, and natural-looking lighting from the smartphone app.
Key features
-
Reef spectrum: Multi-channel mix rich in deep blue, royal blue, and ultraviolet, aimed at coral colour and zooxanthellae photosynthesis.
-
HyperDrive (HD): Unused power from channels you turn down can be routed into the wavelengths you want to boost, without wasting that wattage.
-
App control: Bluetooth or Wi-Fi with the MyAI or Mobius apps for schedules, ramp times, and moonlight.
-
Even blend: 80-degree optics mix the diodes to reduce a “disco ball” effect and give a natural shimmer.
-
Low profile: Slim housing with a quiet fan for cooling.
Water and system compatibility
-
Water: Marine / saltwater reef aquariums only. Not for freshwater or planted tanks.
-
Use: SPS, LPS, soft corals, anemones, and other marine invertebrates.
Programming and best practices
Always follow dosage & directions on product packaging.
-
Acclimation: When replacing older lights, use the app’s acclimation mode to raise intensity over several weeks. This reduces light shock and bleaching.
-
Mounting: For even spread, mount about 20–30 cm above the water with a Hydra mounting arm, flex arm, or hanging kit.
-
Watch the corals: In the first weeks, if polyps shrink or colour pales, lower peak white and UV intensity in the app.
