Product overview
The Oase BioMaster Thermo 2 is an external canister filter with a built-in heater for planted and heavily stocked tanks. Clear water and a stable biofilter need steady turnover. If cleaning a canister is messy, it gets skipped, debris builds up, flow drops, and water quality suffers.
The EasyClean pre-filter lets you pull the mechanical sponges without stripping the filter head. The Oase HeatUp heater sits in the canister, so there is no glass heater tube in the display. Water is meant to pass through sealed channels into high-surface Hel-X bio-media rather than bypassing the media.
Key features
- EasyClean pre-filter: Sealed sponge module slides out of the head for a quick rinse, without flooding the cabinet.
- Integrated heater: Bi-metal HeatUp element in the water column inside the canister — no extra power cord or heater tube in the aquascape.
- Hel-X media: Floating plastic biomedia with a large surface area for nitrifying bacteria.
- Shut-off valves: Pathways seal during cleaning so the canister does not back-siphon or drip on the floor.
- Self-priming: Manual pump lever pulls water down from the tank after a clean.
- Flow control: Dial valves on the intake and outlet to set turnover.
Water and system compatibility
- Water: Freshwater and marine (including fish-only displays).
- Use: Planted aquascapes, heavy-bioload African cichlid tanks, freshwater shrimp, and marine fish-only systems.
- Cabinet: Square 240 × 240 mm base to sit in a standard aquarium cabinet without twisting the hoses.
Models
All sizes use 16/22 mm hose and the same 240 × 240 mm footprint. Height, media volume, flow, and HeatUp wattage increase with the model.

Installation and care
Always follow dosage & directions on product packaging.
- Never run dry: Prime and flood the canister before plugging it in. A dry impeller can overheat the ceramic shaft.
- Pre-filter: Rinse the sponge stack every 1–2 weeks so debris does not starve the main pump of flow.
- Heater: Unplug and let the HeatUp element cool for at least 15 minutes before draining the canister for a deep clean.
- Hoses: Flush 16/22 mm lines and intake/outlet pipes with a pipe brush from time to time to clear slime.
